Hello,

I wanted to watch a video at https://abc.com/shows/general-hospital/episode-guide/2022-01/18-general-hospital-11822 but encountered this message: “An error occurred during video playback, possibly due to network connectivity or being in a backgrounded browser tab. Please try again.”

I tried several times and cleared all the cookies from that site. Still wasn't able to watch it. Then I switched to Google Chrome and had no problem. After I watched the show I came back to FF and tried it again. Still got that same message. I've had this problem many times before with from abc.com.

What's up with this?

Thanks, Andre'a

I got the same message. This could be a website issue. Try loading another video. Same problem? If we can't help, contact their support.

See if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version?cache=no Did you update Firefox to the latest version?

Version 96.0, first offered to Release channel users on January 11, 2022 Version 96.0.1, first offered to Release channel users on January 14, 2022 Version 96.0.3, first offered to Release channel users on January 27, 2022

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1359657#answer-1463359 and updated to 95.0. . . . I finally found where the plugin "Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc." was not updating to the newest version of December 1, 2021. Ver #4.10.2391.0

cor-el; Make sure you have the latest Widevine version. You can toggle DRM off/on to see if that makes Firefox (re)load DRM components.

You can possibly check the XHR requests in the Browser Console if this doesn't work.

Hi FredMcD,

Thank you for your response.

As I mentioned above, there's no problem when I use a different browser. If Google Chrome has no problem then FF shouldn't have one. It's obviously a problem with FF. This isn't the first time I've encountered this issue. It happens frequently when trying to watch any General Hospital episode. (This is the only show I watch on abc.com.) I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to be able to watch the show.

I always prefer using FF but if I have to, I don't mind switching over to a different browser. But it would be nice if I didn't have to do that.

Looking forward to a fix, Andre'a

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I run diagnostics frequently and am sure that all my drivers are up to date. I've also cleared all cookies associated with this site.

For many weeks at a time I have no problem watching these videos. Then suddenly I'm not able to.

If FF's Enhanced Tracking Protection is causing this problem then in my opinion, FF should fix this.
