Old machine: POP New machine: IMAP TB has been set up on the New machine and is being used including making folders and saving messages. I want to "import" folders on the Old POP machine into the New IMAP machine. Can I do that? If so, how? Thank you, GP

hi mail570,

  1. Alternative 1

Suggest you try via Thunderbird's import function. Go to Meny -> Tools -> Import -> then select Mail, then you will be asked to choose email provider. In this case you have to have a copy of your POP emails (Profile/local folder) on your new machine or on a removable HDD or on a USB stick.

  1. Alternative 2

Use the add on "ImportExportTools" [https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/.../importexporttools/]. Same as above you need have access to your POP emails.

Additionally you may wish have a look at this support article at mozillaZine Importing and exporting your mail

Find the mbox files in the old POP account, in the Mail\<popserver> and Mail\Local Folders subfolders of the old profile folder. They are the large files with no extension, named after folders, e.g. Inbox, Sent. Copy the mbox files into Mail\Local Folders of the new profile, while TB is closed. Restart TB and find the folders under Local Folders in the Folder Pane. This method will work with any version of TB, such as 78, that currently has no import/export add-on.
