firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close
I have a laptop that runs on Windows XP SP3. I download and install Firefox 13.0. It was working. I turned off the laptop, then turned it on some time later. Whenever I click Firefox, the error message appears, however, I can still use Firefox. Firefox will close if I click "close" in the error message. The only way I can browse the web using Firefox is to drag the error message off screen and then continue on my work.
I'm sure no one would like an error message just hanging around off screen. I researched for a solution but it seems none of it work.
1 - "It might be a problem with the plugins/add-ons." I turned off all my plugins/add-ons, restarted Firefox, and I still got the error message. 2 - "Try Firefox in safe mode." I did and I still got the error message. 3 - "It might be malware." I did a full scan using Avast and Advanced SystemCare Pro. Still got the error message. 4 - "Do a reinstall." I still got the error message
I've tried everything with no results.'

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

can you try with reset Firefox

I tried reset and I still got the message. I already stated I tried safe mode.
Now here's the weird thing. Just a while ago I rebooted the laptop. I try opening Firefox again and there's no error message. I reboot one more time and I get the error message. I'm wondering, does Firefox 13.0 have compatibility issues with Windows XP SP3?
Not at all, its fully compatible with Firefox 13

Strange, there's nothing in crash reports.
Try to do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 13.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
- Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
You can also try a new profile to see if that helps.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
