Format of quoted original message in reply emails
I recently migrated from Windows Live Mail to Thunderbird and don't like the way the quoted original message in reply emails is formatted in Thunderbird. I would prefer that the quoted original message in the reply not be indented. I have looked through Thunderbird's Options and Account Settings and couldn't find anything that turns indenting off. Is anyone aware of how to turn indenting of original messages in replies off?

Install ReplyWithHeader and check the box 'Cleanup only new quote character' in the add-on's options (Tools/Add-on Options); see picture.

Thanks for your reply. I installed ReplyWithHeader as you described, but it doesn't seem to be working. I couldn't figure out how to get to the screen in your picture. I looked in the T-bird Options Tab, Account Settings Tab, and Add-ons Manager Tab. The Add-ons Manager Tab shows ReplyWithHeader installed and enabled. In Add-on Manager, clicking on the gear symbol or the thee dots (···) did not offer a configuration menu for this add-on. The Debugging Tab shows no error messages. I am running T-bird 78.3.2 on Windows 10 Professional. Do I need to look in some other location to configure the ReplyWithHeader add-on?
It's under Tools/Add-on Options on the Menu Bar; press Alt if the Menu Bar is hidden.
Thanks! If you hadn't pointed me in the right direction I would have never found it as my Menu Bar is hidden.
In the Misc tab of RWH properties, I only had to check the 'Cleanup only new quote character' setting. The other two were already checked by default. If I hadn't checked that additional setting, would RWH have deleted '>' characters even if they were an intended part of the sender's message?
I have TB set to automatically update when new versions become available. Should I disable that to prevent TB updates from occurring before a compatible update for RWH becomes available?
I would test different settings to confirm their meaning; settings take effect without restarting TB.
I think you're safe with automatic updates on the 78 branch, as far as add-ons remaining compatible, at least until the next major release in 2021. But it doesn't hurt to set updates to 'Check for updates..' to allow for confirmation of add-on compatibility.
Thank you so much for your help. The ReplyWithHeader add-on works great! It allows TB to mimic the behavior of Outlook or Windows Live Mail. Mozilla should consider making it a built-in feature of TB.
