How do I get email sound alerts without the banner??
I've just downloaded thunderbird. 4 days ago I "upgraded" to Windows 10, but in their preinstalled mail app it's not possible to have a sound alert when receiving email without also these banners popping up. So I've just now downloaded Thunderbird. Unlike the mail app the sound alert option is not greyed out when I uncheck the "show an alert". However, even though I still have the "play a sound" checked, I don't receive any audio alert when I receive new email. Am I missing something really obvious here??
This is frustrating!! Is there any email program out there that allows you to have sound alerts without banners?? Windows live mail is ideal, but I can't get it to work with Windows 10.

Just uninstalled. I just want the sound alerts. Now not getting any alerts until I close the program and restart it. Too buggy.
Windows live mail was buggy, and lacked most of the features of a real mail client. It was a poor substitute for Outlook Express. It amazes me how many people though it was Ok.
But to your issue.
The only normal reason that the play sounds would not work is if you changed the sound file to be played to one that was not compatible. Were you working with the original sound file.
Another issue is that not all mail providers offer servers that work correctly so the arrival of mail is haphazard. Large providers like AOL, GMail and Outlook manage to run servers that are by and large compatible with the mail standards. Others (mostly ISPS) fail in that regard and offer sub standard services to their subscribers from buggy servers. the charter bug here https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1231592
However why am I wasting time here for someone that uninstalled the software. No idea really.
Was your account configured as IMAP or POP? Who is your mail provider?
imap, gmail. Windows live mail was great! No stupid banners unlike the current mail app, and thunderbird.
I use the same wav file and have never changed it. maybe it's Windows 10 making all these banners no matter what email client I use. God knows.
