From a fresh installation of T'Bird, I have all of my Inbox emails but none of my personal folders. Why?
I've used T'Bird previously but switched to Mailbird for various reasons. I've now come back to T'Bird, started a fresh installation yesterday. All of my different email addresses have appeared along with all of my Inbox and sent messages. However none of the personal folders I created in my main account have appeared. The main account is an "Ntlworld.com" email address which I have set as IMAP in T'Bird. When I try to use the "Import" function in T'Bird "Tools" it tells me that "No application to provide data from".
Grateful for any advice please how to retrieve my many folders.
Geoff

Imap accounts need to subscribe to see folders located on server. Right click on imap mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe' to see list. check all necessary checkboxes and click on 'Subscribe' click on 'OK'
Thank you, however the £Subscribe" list only shows the folders already showing. Use of the refresh button made no difference either. I had about 30 or more self-created folders before and I can still access them in "Mailbird" but I would of course like to bring them all into F'Bird.
It may be IMAP now, but was it set to use POP in Mailbird?
Yes it was.
I assume you were going to offer a suggestion after my last response about POP. While waiting I decided to remove the account from T'Bird and then add it as a POP3. It reappeared as such but without and personal folders and also none of my earlier Inbox emails, all of which had been downloaded under the IMAP. I also notice that right clicking the account name does not give me the "subscribe" option I got before with IMAP.
I would therefore be grateful for any further advice please.
Well, using POP, the folders are local only, so if you did not backup your data, then you can't really do anything. If you have a backup, then you are able to upload your emails.
IMAP works with remote folders, so all data is available on the remote server too. In the future, you should always use that option.
Thanks M.B. I did a backup last month in Mailbird and have it saved on a memory stick but can't see any way of importing it into the IMAP version of my Ntlworld account. Is the only way to recreate the personal folders in T'Bird then copy and paste the emails?
