By installing bitdefender software on my PC, the addon bitdefender wallet was asked if wanted to install. As I want to delete the addon bitdefender wallet completly from my PC there was no way to delete it. First there is no button for deleting to use, but only a button for activation or deactivation of this addon bitdefender wallet. Then I have deinstalled bitdefender software completly twice with reinstalling bitdefender software again, and then I have deinstalled mozilla firefox completely with deleting profiles folder in AppData/Roaming. But if I have reinstalled mozilla firefox 41.0 again, there is still listed bitdefender wallet addon in about:addons.

Please send me some information how to delete this addon bitdefender wallet completely from the listed addons and from my PC. Thank you.

Hello jscher2000,

I have solved the described problem through searching for the path in windows registry and by deleting the registry-key of the addon bitdefender wallet. After deleting the registry-key, the addon bitdefender wallet has disappeared from about:addons and from Troubleshooting Information.

Thank you for your friendly support.

External software can add extensions to Firefox using either a registry entry or adding it to a shared folder (if it were in your profile, the Remove button would be enabled). You can track down the location of an extension by opening a hard-to-read file. Here's what I suggest:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Scroll down and find extensions.json and right-click > Copy it. Then right-click > Paste in a blank area of the list. Windows should now show extensions - Copy.json. You can rename that with a .txt extension to access it more easily using a text editor.

In the file, search for BitDefender or Wallet and you should see information such as the following (example is Adobe Create PDF extension):

{"id":"web2pdfextension@web2pdf.adobedotcom","syncGUID":"v4hJ7nJBAhrE","location":"winreg-app-global","version":"2.0","type":"extension","internalName":null,"updateURL":null,"updateKey":null,"optionsURL":null, "optionsType":null,"aboutURL":null,"iconURL":"chrome://web2pdfextension/skin/C_AdobeLogo_48x48.png","icon64URL":"chrome://web2pdfextension/skin/C_AdobeLogo_64x64.png","defaultLocale":{"name":"Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF","description":"Converts a web page to PDF","creator":"Adobe Systems Incorporated","homepageURL":"http://www.adobe.com/"},"visible":true,"active":true,"userDisabled":false,"appDisabled":false,"descriptor":"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Adobe\\Acrobat 11.0\\Acrobat\\Browser\\WCFirefoxExtn","installDate":1389397098333,"updateDate":1437178060195,"applyBackgroundUpdates":1, "bootstrap":false,"size":286843,"sourceURI":null,"releaseNotesURI":null,"softDisabled":false,"foreignInstall":true, "hasBinaryComponents":false,"strictCompatibility":false,"locales":[],"targetApplications":[{"id":"{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}", "minVersion":"4.0","maxVersion":"*.*"}],"targetPlatforms":[],"multiprocessCompatible":false,"signedState":0}

If you skim through the parameters, you will find "descriptor" which has the path on disk to the extension file. Since this is outside of any Mozilla or Firefox folder, this most likely was found through the Windows registry and I could either remove it from disk or from the registry or both.

If the file is actually missing from disk or the registry and Firefox hasn't noticed, the extensions.json file is out of date. Firefox should recheck at statup, but to force Firefox to rebuild the file, you can remove it. But first, close Firefox:

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename extensions.json to something like extensions_old.json. Also rename extensions.ini to something like extensions_old.ini.

Start Firefox back up again, and it should rebuild its extensions list.

Hello jscher2000,

thank you for your fast reply to my posted question. But the description you have made is not usable for me as PC user. It should be something more easier to solve this described addon-problem.

I've never tried it myself, but there are programs like Revo Uninstaller which claim to be able to clean out all the parts of a program more completely than the program's own uninstaller. Please make a backup of your Firefox settings folder "just in case" if you plan to use a program like that. This article has tips on backing up: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Hello jscher2000,

now I have tried your first notice of deleting extensions.json, but I could not find extensions.ini and there is no such an extensions file.

After deleting extensions.json and restarting firefox, I was asked for installing all addons and I have not installed bitdefender wallet addon. But it was listed again in about:addons and I could not make a successful deinstallation of this addon.

Hi pemigabo123, if it were my system, as the next step, I would look inside the old extensions.json file to learn the location on disk of that extension, but I understand that it's hard to read its contents.
