Why do inserted images display locally as "broken"?

Rather than attach files, I usually insert images (Menu: Insert/Image...) into the body of the message.

If I go back and look at the message, the full size of the image is displayed, but with the slassic "broken" icon. The file itself has not been moved.

Why can I not see the image as inserted?

Automatically gathered and basically hidden. We actually appreciate it out in the open. Makes it obvious.

Now when you link to a image as you have, the image is downloaded and encoded into the message in MIME format prior to sending. So if your looking in the sent folder you are not looking at the remote image.

If you click the don't include the image option then what I have said is wrong, the image is remotely linked.

Which do you do? Do you have anti virus software, or a firewall that uses application names as opposed to ports and protocols.
