How do I fix the update for the Reader Plugin? Every time I click box to update and download version, it still shows a red box that needs to by updated
I am trying to update a Plugin. When I click on the red box next to the Reader Plugin, it leads me to Adobe site to choose operating system, language and version. I do this and download the version. It shows version already installed. When I go back to check and see if the Adobe Reader Plugin has been updated, there is still the red box to the right of it saying it needs to be updated. I refreshed Firefox and that did not resolve the problem. What can I do to update this Plugin?

Is such a situation as this, go to the programs web site and check there. If the site says you have the current programs, that is all you need.

Sorry, but the plugin checker is a little limited in its opinion of what PDF plugin you should have...
Adobe is still updating Adobe Reader XI (and Adobe Acrobat XI) and the corresponding plugin (version 11.0.11.18) but the plugin checker now considers the new Adobe Reader DC and its later-versioned plugin to be the "current" version. As long as you are using the latest according to the Help menu > Check for Updates from within Adobe Reader XI (or Adobe Acrobat XI), then you can trust that and ignore the plugin checker site.
Or you could get the new Reader DC, but I suggest waiting a bit until the bugs settle out.

I have read the posts above, but I still have 2 questions. These questions are regarding Mac OS X version 10.7.5 (I also got the prompt to update my Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape version 11.0.11. But when I went through the process by clicking the update button, the Adobe installer indicated that I already have a more recent version installed.) 1. On my PC, I understand how to open the application, click on the help menu & then click on check for updates. But how do I do this on my Mac?
2. Again, regarding the plug-in on my Mac, how/where would I check on the Adobe website whether my Reader version is the current one? (I remember going to Adobe website when they had a button to click to check if I have current version, but I don't see this feature now--at least not on my Mac mini.) Actually, I am now in the (rather long) process of downloading "Adobe Reader 11.0.11 update" (File Name AdbeRdrUpd11011.dmg) from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5910&fileID=5934 Thank you very much for any info/suggestions. .
You can stop that download. The latest version for Adobe Reader XI is 11.0.12: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/release-note/release-notes-acrobat-reader.html
As for how to start an application on Mac if it isn't conveniently listed on the dock, I don't know. Maybe there's a global search box where you just need to type Adobe and it will show up?
Thank you very much for the prompt reply. Your answer prompted me to realize that when I open Adobe Reader on my Mac, I do see the Help menu, etc. on the application's menu bar (duh for me). The interesting thing is that when I checked for updates within Adobe Reader on my Mac, it said that no updates are available. But I just succeeded in installing version 11.0.12 from the link that you provided! Thanks millions! By the way, Is this the link for checking for future updates? (since I don't think that the DC version works with my system).

You can keep the "release notes" link, it seems to be reliable for the long term. Unless there is a special release, Reader updates 4 times a year.
This link is very useful. After updating to version 11.0.12, FF plug-in check shows that my Adobe Reader is up-to-date! From now on, if FF plug-in check indicates that my AR is out of date, I can go to this link to download current version. It's too bad that link from FF plug-ins check does not link to this web page. It is also unfortunate that checking for updates from AR application on my Mac does not indicate that this update is available, together with providing the link to the updated version.. Your help is greatly appreciated!
