I've read the page on how to clear history. For some reason I can't clear the history from the search bar in the library. I've tried the "forget this page" trick and delete. What am I doing wrong?

I've deleted all the Firefox folders that I could find and then reinstalled. I go to library and type in the page that I want deleted. Gone through the steps listed on help page. The pages never delete. Its still searchable, Its still there. I've tried clearing all history, I've also tried changing my privacy settings. Nothing works. Mac Os X 10.6.8
