"This page is slowing down Firefox" new problem with a frequently used site

more options

This problem is NEW ... I've been using Firefox with Bible Gateway for literally YEARS, and this problem has begun in the last two days. I tried to follow the advice under other occurrences of this problem to others, and couldn't ... I don't get into code that way!

All I know is that I can no longer simply open a tab, go to that site, and use it; once that error shows up, no navigation on the page is possible.

Idk whether this is a problem for Firefox, or for Bible Gateway. I've contacted them, too.

But ... what can I do?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click "Refresh Firefox" in the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Thanks. I did all that ... it doesn't seem to solve the problem exactly ... but I'm beginning to think it's the site's problem ... specifically, Ephesians.

So, that's something.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked check the Timings to see how long it takes to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

Thanks so much for your help ... the problem seems to have "fixed itself," which, again, I think might have had something to do with the specific site ... which I did also contact.

So ... all seems to be well now. Thanks again!
