I have a very large profile (9GB) with several email accounts, one having several hundred folders. Lately, moving emails from one folder to another has slowed down very much. Task Manager shows 90 - 100% disk when moving emails.

Moving email on the local disk, or using IMAP and so every move has a load of overhead in messaging back and forth with the server?

These email accounts are not IMAP, they are POP.

I would suspect something on your system. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems

To clarify, all emails that are moving are on the local disk, some folders are larger than 2GB.
