I have to find HTML color HEX values (web), COPY and PASTE - but the color picker appears to DO NOTHING!!! WHY HAVE IT if it doesn't work???

THANK you, Matt for duly CORRECTING me!!! I loved my OLD mainframes - no such 'layers' of software or interactions between software to deal with! No such 'FEATURES' either! CARD input originally for programs! The 'landscape' far simpler as well - IBM vs 'the BUNCH' ... :-D

Anyway, thanks again. And my apology to the Thunderbird team since it is NOT their problem.

I am using Windows 10 Home. Color picker seems to work fine, everything in the dialog boxes - including the color rectangle - looks good but the color of the selected text does not change from black.
