I used to scan prints on my Brother printer/scanner (MFC-9330CDW) and download them to folders on my computer. In the past I was able to download the scans (pdfs) to any folder on my desktop. Now I am unable to do that. I would like to be able to correct that issue, because I use the scanning to save printed references for genealogical research. Please let me know how to get it back to the way it was, it is too complex and cumbersome the way it is now. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

When there was no response to my most recent message I uninstalled Firefox and the problem disappeared.

Something like that wouldn't go through Firefox; that's between that MFC and the operating, at least on my older Brother MFC-J615W.

I assure you that my scans go through Firefox, and only Firefox, and that it started up recently. I am just trying to understand a problem not of my doing, and you are telling me that I am imagining it. It's hard to fix a problem that Firefox says does not and can not exist.

Hi wrbyrne,

Can you describe the method you use to obtain and scan the pdf's.

You mention that you use your Brother printer/scanner to scan prints. Where do you get those prints? Normally, if you download a PDF, it can be saved in any folder without using your printer.

How is Firefox involved? Are you using Firefox to display them in the browser? Or do you view them in a separate PDF application like Adobe Acrobat?

When you say that you are unable to save them in any folder, do you mean that you cannot save them at all, or you can only save them in one particular folder, all the time?

Give us more information, so we can better understand your problem, and give you the best advice.

Thanks

The prints that I have scanned in the past for genealogy are mostly old photographs or printed publications. I use the brother MFC-9330CDW to print and scan. I never had a problem in the past doing this, and I was able to file the scans I made wherever I wanted them to be. However, I have not scanned items to save in folders for several months. I have wondered if my problem was related to some Firefox or brother upgrade but I have no idea how to address that possibility.

This current problem popped up out of the blue, with a single document. The document that precipitated this communication was an affidavit for legal purposes. This document had to be printed, then signed, then scanned again and subsequently attached to an email. So: I printed it (with no signature), signed it, and then scanned it again to attach to an email. But that did not appear to be possible.

Anything scanned on the brother I use now appears on a long list of Firefox HTML Documents and nowhere else that I can determine. When I click on the scan that I have just made it appears in a Firefox format. That format allows me to print the scanned file, but nothing else, except to download the whole Firefox formatted scan again. When I click to download the file the identical previously downloaded Firefox display appears once again with the exact same options - print or download yet again. There is no option that I can identify to save the pdf file by itself in a folder that I choose. So I was unable save my signed affidavit in an appropriate folder for attachment to an email.

I would really like to correct this problem. Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do to figure this out. Thank you for your time and consideration.
