tl;dr when i close firefox with a newly created empty tab and open it again said tab is not opened

So i got into the habit of using the session restore function instead of bookmarks.

Then the problem arose that I often had tabs open that started loading and even though I don't need them in that exact moment. The solution is/was obvious closing firefox with an empty tab, so that when i open it doesn't load (and the setting that tabs only load when I select them).

And with the newest update said tactic doesnt work anymore, the empty tabs aren't there when I open Firefox.

There are prefs to set the behavior whether to open (pinned) tabs automatically when you use Restore Previous Session or leave them pending.

You can set the startup page to an empty page if you do not want to reopen tabs in most cases. For more options you can set the startup pref directly on the about:config page.

There is also this pref that allows to close all tabs before closing Firefox.

  • browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

So maybe I phrased it wrong, but i meant i am using the session restore function instead of bookmarks, but i wouldn't want to load a random site on startup so i close the browser with an empty tab open and selected, but the newest update prevents that.

Nowadays when i open a new empty tab and close the browser, then start the browser sometime later it loads the last non empty tab, and the empty tabs are gone (not 100% of the time but mostly).
