Checked out the forums and tried a number of proposed solutions to no avail. The recent update wiped out all my bookmarks. Last thing I need to do is figure out why I can't access the profile default folder which might have the backup info in it. Tried as administrator but can't access the folder. Running Win 7 on this machine. Tried restoring bookmarks but all that did was wipe out the few bookmarks I recently saved. I tried using the info in the backup folder created by the update. It does not contain any old bookmarks. Like some others my business is impacted by this loss of data. How'd that even happen?

Thanks for the reply. I noticed that there was a Windows update at the same time I updated Firefox. I rebooted the machine and was then able to access the profile default folder and restore the bookmarks. Not sure what exactly happened but it's fixed. Thanks to all for your help and patience.

Thanks for the replies. I previously closed the application before trying to access the folder and I still can't access it. However, I'm guessing it's the same as the Old Firefox contents. I copied the contents of the Old Firefox folder into the profile file currently being accessed in the profile. No bookmarks. Previously reviewed the links above as well before I posted the question and followed the steps but my old bookmarks never restored. Looks like they were permanently deleted.

Hi ljkrush, a Firefox update should not delete saved bookmarks, or the up to 15 backups you would typically find on the Restore menu.

First question: you mentioned restoring a backup deleted current bookmarks. On the Restore menu, Firefox should indicate the date the backup was made, and how many items are in the file (bookmarks + folders). Does the menu show any useful-looking backups available?

Second question, what is this, and/or where is this:

Last thing I need to do is figure out why I can't access the profile default folder which might have the backup info in it. Tried as administrator but can't access the folder.

What message does Windows give you when you try to access the folder?

Firefox profiles are stored under "AppData", which is a hidden folder. If you haven't already, please set Windows to show hidden files and folders to facilitate exploring your disk.

Third question, where did you find this:

I tried using the info in the backup folder created by the update. It does not contain any old bookmarks.

Was that in an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop, created by the "Refresh" feature, or something else?

If you drill down into your older profile folder in Old Firefox Data, can you find the bookmarkbackups folder in there? If so, what kind of contents does it have? The files typically have the date and number of items coded into their names. For example:
