So did Safe Mode help with the site or make no consistent difference?

The results of a Refresh depend on whether the problem is caused by settings and add-ons. Could you try "the usual" first:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Hello jscher2000: I have tried your solutions from your response email to my inquiry and clearing of the cache and cookies works fine until I either turn the computer off for a minute or two and re-start it or just do a re-start from the shutdown menu then the problem re-appears.

I noticed in the history when I select Yahoo.ca from my bookmarks that the first entry is problem loading page. I've tried contacting Yahoo using all available avenues of inquiry but there is no one to actually talk or email.

This problem started about 3 weeks ago with no warning whatsoever and I can't find out whether Yahoo has changed some of their settings or not.

When I try Yahoo.ca it redirects to https://ca.yahoo.com/ -- does that link work for you? I'm pretty sure it's Canada because #1 trending is Justin Trudeau.

That link gets me the text only Yahoo homepage. It seems to be a hit and miss proposition with this site and can we trade Justin for the Donald ?

You could get a majority for that trade, I believe.

Next time you see the problem, could you try this:

(1) Open Firefox's Network Monitor in the lower part of the tab, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Developer > Network
  • Tools menu > Web Developer > Network

(2) Reload the page bypassing the cache (Ctrl+Shift+r)

The Network Monitor should show all the requests the page is making and whether they were successful. This could help identify anything that is being blocked. For comparison, recognizing that the page is very dynamic and could be different in an hour, here's a sequence of screenshots. (I had to unblock some servers to get a more complete list, and the number of ads is staggering and does not seem to end.)

I just tried your last suggestion when the problem occurred and in the status column there is no number just what looks like a black dot, no green ones, in the domain column there is a black triangle with a light coloured exclamation point inside followed by either a s.yimg.com or s1.yimg.com. In the type column is the word plain.

The only entry tat appears normal is the first one which has the status green dot followed by the number 200 and the domain has the locked padlock symbol followed by ca.yahoo.com, the type is html, the Tran. is 126.29 kb and the size is 523.66 kb

The triangle apparently means Firefox could not make a secure connection to the site. https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Tools/Network_Monitor#Security_icons

Do you ever get secure connection errors on other sites? We should try to run that down to rule out a malware problem. According to the article I linked to, if you click the failed request and then on the right side, change from Rules (or whatever panel is activated) to Security, there should be more information about the problem. What does that tell you, if anything?

I clicked the failed request and then security and here is what came up: s.yimg uses an invalid security certificate. then this : error code:SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN
