Orange asterisk not appearing when new mail arrives

I have about 10 POP3 accounts in my Thunderbird (Version 45.2.0). When new mail arrives, each account should display an orange asterisk on the accounts name. This is occuring on some account but not on other accounts. On the accounts that do not show the orange asterisk, I cannot tell when new mail arrives and I have to open the folder' s Inbox to see if there is any new mail. I cannot find a setting to enable or disable this feature. Can anyone assist with this issue?

the folders change colour as well you know. Blue I think is the default, or are you using a non default theme?

I am using the default themes but noe of my folders appears to change color when new mail arrives. Most accounts, but not all, show the orange asterisk when new mail arrives.

Quick glance seems to indicate you have conflicting extensions.. Have you tried checking with 'safe mode' (aka restart tbird with addons disabled).

Thank you for your suggestion of using 'safe' mode' I will try that and advise the outcome.

If safe mode gives the usual / desired asterisks begin with enabling addons til it craps out again then tweak /remove that addon.

I have now tried running TB with the add ons disabled (safe mode) but the situation has not altered. Some accounts show the orange asterisk when new mail arrives at the top level of the folders whilst others only show the orange asterisk on the Inbox folder which cannot be seen when an account's folders are colapsed.
