My Firefox has just automatically updated itself to version 42. The extention page under add-ons does not show the extensions I have installed. The plug in page shows the plug ins I have installed. How do I fix this? This happened on my Windows 7 64 bit partition. I installed the ' Classic Add-On' extension to see if it would fix the issue. Sadly it did not. I have a screenshot. I am unsure if I am permitted to upload it to the media gallery. I also use Linux but I have not done an upgrade therein yet.

Chosen solution

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

If the problem recurs after renaming those files, do you have the BetterPrivacy extension, the one that removes "Flash cookies"? There seems to be a problem in Firefox 42 related to this corruption of the extensions file(s). You may need to remove it for now.

Hi jscher2000

Thank you for your response. I checked all my add-ons after they re-installed and I do not have the BetterPrivacy extenxion. I have made a note not to install it.

Hi

I thought I would mention that I later found that I could not bookmark any new changes to customize any of the toolbars. I installed FEBE and backed up my extentions. I then followed the advise in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved

and then restored by extentions via FEBE. Everything is working now. I have had the bookmark issue a few times.
