how do I stop firefox from asking me to log in to sync

I like using sync but I only want to use it WHEN I want to use it. I don't like having Firefox ask me each time I open it, to log in to sync (Sync encountered an error while syncing... will automatically retry..." every time I open Firefox.

Is there a way to stop this annoying warning and go back to just signing in when I feel like it? This is getting too much like Chrome/Google - where they force you to do things their way instead of letting you do things as you please. Using latest Firefox.

I only added the Site Preferences to make you aware what is involved with ticking this item. I don't think that it applies to Sync, but you shouldn't remove the passwords. Passwords would only get saved if you would click the button in the doorhanger that opens if you enter a name and password asking if you want to remember the password. If you remove the tick on remember passwords in "Tools > Options > Security" then Firefox won't ask to store a new password, so you can try that setting to see if it works with Sync.

Disconnect from Sync and that message won't appear.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes".

  • do not clear the Passwords

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

cor-el, thanks much for that response. So do I understand correctly that I can leave "Clear history when Firefox closes" checked, as long as I do not check for it to Clear All Passwords and to Clear Site Preferences?

Seems to me there should be an ability to make Exceptions so that I can have Firefox clear all passwords (I use lastpass), but REMEMBER CERTAIN ONES like the Sync.

Or better yet, a checkbox that will allow "Always log in to Sync at Firefox start up".

Wouldn't this solve the problem efficiently and get rid of the problem many people are having with this nag to login?

Or am I not completely understanding? All I know is FF did not use to nag me like this, now it does.
