Suddenly Thunderbird started changing the message columns that are displayed and the sort order of the date column. I changed them back, but when I restarted the program they reverted to the wrong settings. I then replaced the prefs.js file with an older version. When I started Thunderbird the next time, the settings were correct. However, after exiting and restarting, they were wrong again.

I don't have a user.js file. I can't figure out what is going on. Any ideas?

That sounds like one of those very helpful programs like CCleaner deleting the session.json file to "protect your privacy"

Well, I don't run a cleaner program and I do have a session.json file. So I don't think that is it. It seems to have started after I updated to 31.2 of Thunderbird.

well if you do not have a session.json file you have neither Thunderbird or Firefox installed.

I guess you didn't read my post. I do have a session.json file in the Thunderbird profile folder.
