How can I disable "Switch to Tab" in Firefox developers edition.

The plugin I've been using for years to get rid of it is not compatible https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/switch-to-tab-no-more

I use multiple monitors to test websites in different states from the perspective of different users (admin user, member user, logged in user) and I NEVER want to 'switch to tab'.

Looking for a solution, thanks.

Sorry, what I meant was, go to the section of the article about the Preferences page. I'll just repeat it here:

  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Privacy & Security (or before Firefox 56, Privacy). On the right side, you will see an "Address Bar" section where you can uncheck "Open Tabs" so Firefox doesn't suggest them on the address bar drop-down.

Does that work?

Does it work to remove them from the address bar drop-down? See this article for the steps: Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox ("Changing your address bar settings" section).

Thank for the reply @jscher2000.

Yes holding down the CMD ( mac osx ) button does disable the switch to tab action and return the link to the state I want to have as default.

If there was a way to flip it so that holding down the CMD would make the 'switch to tab' appear then it would be easier to ignore.

Right now it has this effect: I'm on monitor 2 and hit the + button to open a new tab with the URL i want. I type the first few letters until it appears in the list, I hit down arrow to find it and then enter to open.

Expected results: The url I asked for will open in the tab i just opened.

Actual results: The tab disappears and switches to the nearest tab which was not the current tab that was open when I hit the + button (confusing). Then monitor 1 changes from my IDE and slides to a different desktop where a different instance of firefox is open and displays the URL i was after.

So now I need to switch that desktop back to my IDE and copy+paste the url over to the actual firefox instance i want it on.

Keen to get rid of 'switch to tab' altogether. :)

Thanks @jscher2000

That's close enough :)

All of the 'switch to tab' options have disappeared. The suggestions provided by the "Open Tabs" setting were useful, but not if i have to switch to them.

Suspect they will start to become available via history going forward hopefully.

Much appreciated.
