Firefox is replacing large blocks of tabs (I lave lots) with "New Tab", keeping their icon however losing all url information so I can't just simply refresh that tab. Windows 10, Firefox 55.0.3

Can you describe the situation as to when it happens. I generally have seen similar issues when the network is not up or a captive wifi portal has intercepted your connection and tab loses context.

I notice it after restarting firefox due to another issue (rendering bug - firefox seemingly randomly stops rendering pages and replaces them with either full black or full grey screens - requiring a restart).

So going from this I'd say it is upon restoring a session, not running on wifi, no proxy.

These tabs aren't even loaded per se, I would normally need to first click on them to reload after a session restore.

update: I swapped over to the 64-bit version of firefox and this issue still occurs.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

i'm trying safe mode now, I think I only have a couple addons as it is and they haven't given problems in the past (worth checking though).
