I moved to a new PC and installed 64-bit Thunderbird (had 32-bit on old PC). I restored my profile folder from backup and Inbox shows my email and settings look okay. But if I try to reply to a message, TB freezes. It opens the new message dialog, but the TO is left empty and everything is unresponsive with spinning icon. All I can do is close the program.

I think my problem was that I had not installed the Quick Text plugin on the new computer yet. I installed it and then copied over my profile folder and it seems to be working now.

I can't write a new message either. When I try to input the TO field, program freezes up.

As a test, I did a new install and setup my email account without copying over the old Profile folder and everything works fine, but it doesn't have my old email stored in local folder or contacts and old settings. How can I recover everything?

I have this problem as well. Thunderbird only freezes when I hit reply, and the cursor at the top of the new email won't blink, and I can't enter text. If I press the top right "X", the program will eventually ask if I want to save, discard, or cancel, and if I choose one, I can then proceed. The next time I try to reply to a message it works fine.

I did try the fix of pressing "shift" when I open thunderbird, which does give me several options, and if I proceed with the "troubleshooter," it then seems to work OK. It is also a pain. The problem is this is the program mostly used by my wife. She is definitely not going to want to use this if doing things this way is the only way it works correctly.

BTW, I did add the quicktext add on, and it did not solve the problem for me.
