ctrl-I >> media >> save as
under " tools >> page info " (ie, ctrl-i)
when you save an item, and that filename already exists, can we have (an option) to automatically add (2), (3), (4) (and so on) to the saved file? (ie, not over write it, but to save as 'next number')
at the moment, if you don't manually add a number, it's "overwrite file yes/no". it would be convenient to have (an option) to automatically add filename (number).ext

Hello quartz, You can submit feature requests at:
Firefox Input https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/
And there are also contact links here:
If you do not set Firefox to save the file automatically, but have selected the 'Always ask' choice for downloading files then Firefox will ask whether you want to replace the file or offer the possibility to save the file under a different name. If you save the file automatically then Firefox will save the file and if necessary add a number to the name to prevent overwriting the file.

hello corel, the problem with save files to downloads, rather than always ask, is that all files will go to that directory
I have some sites where I want the filename with a (number) added automatically, and at the same time will be surfing other websites where I want to manually save files to certain locations
for eg, I might be downloading text data files from one website, where I want to end up with
file.txt file (2).txt file (3).txt file (50).txt in c:\location\texts\
and at the same time, I have another tab open, where I want to save individiual .exe, or .mp4 files
in c:\downloads\
Robert, if something like this does become a feature, where would it be documented?
hi quartz, the nearest that I could think of would be in a new versions' Release Notes and it would probably be evident when you Save a file.
Or, there might be something in the works over at
Bugzilla https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/home
but, it might take some time to find it.
