My bookmarks no longer work. They show up in the bookmarks bar, I can edit them, read them. But when click on any of them, Firefox does not auto-open a tab (it used to do that). I can manually type them in the browser bar and Firefox will take me to the site. I can edit the bookmark, copy the text in the bookmark and put it in the main browser bar and Firefox will take me to the site. But clicking (or double or triple clicking) the bookmark does nothing.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Disabling the extensions helped me figure out the problem.

The issue was Tab Utilities 1.5.28.1.1 When I disable that, the problem is present. When I enable that extension, the problem is present.

FWIW, I also updated F'fox to the latest. Not sure why it wasn't updating automatically.

I consider this issue resolved.
