I have no option to view formatting bar. No formatting bar. Fonts are not behaving (not displaying correct/chosen fonts).and, don't know if this is related but For the past week or so I return to my computer to find that Firefox has opened a new tab with thunderbird url. I downloaded and reinstalled on top of old version (same version 31.5.0), didn't affect problem.

Then I will go back to my original statement that you have a Plain Text write window open.

Hold the shift key while clicking Write to toggle to HTML. This will make a temporary switch between formats.

To set the account to always use HTML you need to go into Account Settings. The first option under Composition and Addressing is a check box for HTML.

If you have set to use Plain Text instead of HTML there is no format bar. That is why it is called plain text.

1. I don't have "plain text" selected. (I have both plain text and html) 2. This changed by itself a week or two ago. I didn't change my settings

Did your Formatting toolbar get turned off? Open a Write window. From the menu bar select View-Toolbars and make sure Formatting Bar is checked.

that fixed it but why did it change by itself ????? Also, why, under "Options" "send options" does it say " send the message in both plain text and html" ???
