The following articles all have good information to search, detect, and remove virus's, spyware, malware, and adware. They suggest performing various scans with some listed scanners. The only thing I can offer along with that is perform the scans in the Windows Safe Mode. This is very important as the windows safe mode only loads those drivers and files for a minimum boot. This keeps locked files to a minimum level so that they can be scanned.
