Stop Thunderbird from Opening Messages in a New Tab with One Click
Lately Thunderbird has started opening messages in a new tab with one click. This is very frustrating, as it opens all messages when I want to highlight a group of messages to click and drag them to a new folder. I have read all of the support questions related to this and the solutions all involve changing a mouse battery or updating mouse drivers. However, I am not using a mouse. I am using the track pad that is integrated into the computer. I would be grateful for any help you can provide. I am using Windows 10. Thank you!

Do you have the Message Pane enabled ? If yes, then a single click will open in the Message Pane. A double click will open in a new tab unless you have another option selected.
When you perform a single or double click, your computer receives the instruction from whatever device you are using which in your case is the Trackpad, it then performs the event action for the instruction according to the program that has focus.
It seems your computer believes you have performed a double click. So computer performs the action for a double click in Thunderbird.
The issue is likely to be your trackpad. Sometimes this can be out of date drivers, but I'm assuming you have already updated them. Settings > Devices > Touchpad Check the Settings for the Trackpad to see if it needs a lower sensitivity. It is possible the length of time for a single click is too short so computer detects the slightly longer click as a double. Perhaps your Trackpad has detected a two finger press - not sure what you have set up for that option.

Thank you for your response! I have not updated my drivers because I didn't know how to do that. But I will follow your instructions and try it. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

The addon 'Quickfolders' turns folders into tabs. It does not do anything with the 'Address Book' because it is not a folder. It does not open something that is not a folder in a new window.
Hello there again.
Yes indeed correct ,I was thinking give this guy a Swiss Army knife. Nothing to do with the question.
One-off the best improvements into Windows 10 are the functionality s of the touch pad. Touchpad movements makes it easier to work with the tasks to be quick with the touchpad functions.Without a mouse. Right clicking, area select, scroll and of of course zoom, also audio and the volume are onboard. That all can be adjust with the touchpad. At Win 10.
Even if you computer has got a precision touchpad that s new you can controll a lot more. You really can go up to four fingers. The drivers are all included into the system of your pc.
There must be a way to configure it on the system configuration on that pc?
