Firefox dev edition is the same as Beta, just with some additional developer tools

Install each Firefox version in their own folders and make sure each use startup with their own Profiles and not share Profile has been the basics since forever.

You can create a new folder for the Beta version (for example, C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox Beta\) then download the full, offline installer from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-beta and do a custom installation so you can choose the destination folder. See Custom installation of Firefox on Windows for details.

I've been trying this all night and it's an absolute bloomin' nightmare to set up, I've still not managed it.

I had beta installed and my wife installed release under her Windows login. That install overwrote my beta install.

So in ran the installer for beta again, assuming that it would be clever enough to spot the existing release install, but it didn't and overwrote it...

....I tried downloading the dedicated installer files rather than the basic "Firefox Installer" so I could choose the directory, and then I set different shortcuts for each install and made sure they were each running on a different profile...

...but STILL the shortcuts default to the most recent installation! Does the installer when it "Upgrades" and existing installation mess around with registry entries, or overwrite Firefox files for other installs?

Currently, I'm running beta, and I think I have release installed in a separate directory but I can't run the blooming thing! How am I meant to set this up?

And why aren't the installers clever enough to notice existing installs of different flavours and set up completely independently?!

Argh!

Cheers :)

To madbilly:

The chosen solution was to use the current Firefox release along with Firefox Developer Edition, available for download here: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-developer

(Firefox dev edition is the same as Beta, just with some additional developer tools).

If you need more help you should ask a new question since this thread is for helping bludev (see Mozilla Support rules and guidelines under Posting support requests). I'll close this thread.
