So, it seems 48.0.2 is having the same early problem as 48.0, which was only fixed by an in between update. I'm getting random hangs later in my browsing session forcing me to to close out and reopen Firefox. I've done what they always tell you to do with hangs. The sessionstore.js file doesn't seem to exist when I close out, so I can't delete it. Then there are conflicting suggestions about hardware acceleration, with Firefox help pages saying to make sure it's turned off, but then in my last complaint about 48.0 an editor telling me to leave it on.

Again, help.

Many programs will 'phone home' to get their updates. But there are still a number of them that you have to tell them to do so.

Some protection programs have caused issues in the past. By disabling them we can find out if that is the case. Access safe websites only, like Mozilla.

A bit of an update. I found out how to disable Microsoft Security Essentials. So, I browsed for a few hours, and did notice a small difference. For most of the session, I wasn't getting any interminable hangs, though, I still get hangs. The difference was that I didn't have to manually close out of the session.

Still, what ended my session was when I opened about three or four Twitter tabs trying to browse them. The hangs got longer, the browser's graphics broke up and went black, again, and then finally even after I got past the hangs to close out the Twitter tabs, even basic tabs like Yahoo.com would then begin short hangs every five to ten seconds which made the browser completely unusable. I was able to close out manually, but then get a crash after the closing of the browser.

Can't quite figure out what background program may be doing this. Anyway, as far as I know everything that is running is up to date.

I note you have had multiple issues for a long while. I think you really need to get back to a basic test configuration. Note that does not mean you always need to do that, only that you need to do it until we can sort out your problems. Even then note that with multiple profiles it need not interrupt your day to day set up and habits.

Hi again FireFoxFan1, I don't think you are answering all the questions we ask you when we try to help. I can understand you are getting frustrated with your Firefox problems, and are probably getting rather confused with the number of questions and threads you are participating in. My First question is have you still set Firefox to clear history when it closes ? Does the problem go away if you do not do this ? (There presently known issues with this) Secondly do some or all of these problems go away of you test using a new profile ? Initially this is only something needing to be done as a troubleshooting step. Using keyboard shortcut Winkey+R and typing or pasting firefox.exe -P followed by the pressing the Enter Key may open the profile manager. See May I suggest you try to keep to this one thread now while we try to help you, and only start additional questions if one of the regular contributors suggests that is a good idea. "Run Watchdog" was mentioned above. There is no such program listed in program files.

Anyway, for whatever reason, I'm not getting any crashes, and the hangs aren't like they were. I'd hate to mark this as solved, because it was by no help of the moderators that this cleared up. What I did after none of their help worked was unmarked some programs (most notably my Apple update program) at Start that were running in the background, and used the Windows System File Checker (SFC.exe) which found and corrected some missing and corrupted system files. After that, things seem to be slightly better.

That sounds like good news, and also it appears the problem was possibly not directly a Firefox one, but a Windows and third party software issue.

Dear firefoxfan1, security essentials (a lousy program in my opinion) will not find that malware I mentioned above. Avira free will & So will Malwarebytes free. It is quite possible you do not have that particular malware and maybe I should mind my own business but, The following is a list: Technical details for you Signs in a HijackThis log:
