How to stop Firefox 44 from repeatedly reinstalling Create PDF 2.0 add-on.

more options

I suspect that running Cclean does something to FireFox 44, which results in FireFox re-installing plug-ins. I only have two plugins Setpoint (which is not installed) and Adobe Acrobat -- Create PDF 2.0 (Acrobat 11.0 professional) (which I want installed).

I general run cclean to remove temporary files and cookies. The programs worked together until FireFox 44.

What can I do to prevent FireFox from uninstalling (plug-ins are not visible) and the requesting to re-install Adobe Acrobat -- Create PDF 2.0 (Acrobat 11.0?

Thanks

Do you mean you get the approval screen at startup because Firefox discovers CreatePDF as a new extension? Assuming nothing else changed, the most likely explanation is that one of Firefox's settings files was deleted or rolled back.

Ccleaner has a lot of individual features, and you hopefully can find a way to except out Firefox settings files so those are not modified.

It's also possible that the file is corrupted. You can remove the various extension-related settings files and have Firefox regenerate them.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename any of these files that you find:

  • compatibility.ini to something like compatibility-old.ini
  • extensions.ini to something like extensions-old.ini
  • extensions.json to something like extensions-old.json
  • extensions.sqlite to something like extensions-old.sqlite (might not exist depending on how long you've been using this settings folder)

When you start Firefox back up again, it should explore your profile folder, other folders, and the Windows registry to rebuild the list. It probably will ask you to approve one or more extensions again.

Hopefully this will rule out any file corruption.

Thanks for your input. You are correct I am referring to the approval screen at startup. I deleted the files your recommended and things worked even after a cclean. They failed again after using IOLO System Mechanic. I will repeat the clean up and avoid using the offending program and see if this fixes things up. Note the Webex no longer works well with FireFox 44. I am hoping things settle out on this update soon. Thanks.

Hello. This is still a problem and I believe the root cause turns out to be Webex. With Firefox 44.0.2, 64b a program needs to be run each time Webex is used. That program changes something in Firefox and results in the approval screen being presented when Firefox is started the next time.

I am hoping the next release of Firefox will solve the Webex and approval screen issue I am running into. Is there anything else I should try? Thanks.

PS I have ruled out Cclean and System Mechanic.

Maybe ask Webex if this is a known issue or if they have a download that works around it. I find it hard to believe they need to update for every single session.
