Today when I tried to launch Firefox the www.Neo.com page comes up and continually comes up when I try to bypass it and go to my bookmarked sites. I can get to sites by typing them in the browser. Otherwise I can't get rid of the Neo.com site.

Tried resetting Firefox. Tried Malwarbytes. Tried googling the problem and can find nothing.

Try start Firefox in Safe Mode, sometimes the problem is caused by addons:

A few questions:

(1) For the bookmarks that lead to the wrong site, if you hover your mouse over them, do they still show the correct URL or have they become corrupted?

(2) Does Internet Explorer work normally?

(3) If you check the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click the "Installed on" column heading to bring the most recent items to the top, do you find any unexpected new items?

Because different scanning/cleaning tools may find different programs, you may want to try some additional tools from this list: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Thanks a lot guys! Have to go into work shortly. Will try your suggestions when I get back.

The correct URL is still highlighted when hovering the mouse. Haven't had time to try Internet Explorer yet.

I don't see any dodgy new items in my programs?

Have to run. Thanks again!

Other things that need your attention:

Note that your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.

  1. Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
  2. Shockwave Flash 11.4 r402

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove all (older) version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and (re)install the latest Flash player.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

I think the problem is solved. The redirect to Neo.com only seems to be happening with my Yahoo.ca mail account when I use my bookmark. If I type the address in there is no problem. I just deleted the old bookmark and made a new one and it seems to be working without any redirect.

Noticed that others on Yahoo mail were getting the Neo.com redirect virus when using a bookmark as well. This problem seems to be confined to Yahoo mail and no other sites.

None of the anti-malware was able to help. I spent hours running every program I could get my hands on. lol...

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. My computer is probably squeaky clean after all that.

Hi laodongxi, thank you for the update.

Yahoo's new design is called Neo and the address may contain Neo. I wonder whether the old server was trying to redirect you but forgot to put yahoo.com in front of Neo.

Hi,

Not sure about the relationship with the new Neo design and the Neo.com redirect but it seems more than a coincidence.

A lot of people have been complaining about the same problems I have experienced the past few days and so far Yahoo seems to have been silent about it.

Will continue to follow this problem and see what develops ...
