All

I'm using an elan-based touchpad driver (V 1.1.3 Asus smart gesture on Asus UX31A-DH51 ultrabook)... but find that three finger back/forward touchpad scrolling doesn't work with Firefox (22.0).

It seems to be working everywhere else, though (in windows, IE, etc).

I've tried to search the web for solutions but no luck.

Has anyone found a way to get this working and/or also had problems with Firefox/Elan combination?

Thanks!

Try to modify the ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled pref on the about:config page from the default value -1 to 0 or 1 to see if that makes the scroll pad work. Close and restart Firefox after changing the ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled pref.

Unfortunately this setting didn't seem to make a difference at either 0 or 1 :(

Any other possible suggestions? :)

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Hello,

I have the same problem with my Asus on FF 23.0. Two-finger up and down scrolling works, but going to the previous or next page by swiping with three fingers on the touchpad does not work in FF. It does work in IE.

I've tried your suggestions, but both changing the config setting and disabling hardware acceleration did not fix it.

Perhaps FF simply doesn't support this functionality?

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

Thank you for your suggestions. However, the issue is still there in safe mode. I verified that the add-ons were disabled. Is there anything else I can try?

It could be a bug in firefox (hopefully not), you can test that by using a new profile.

I've created a new profile and started FF with it, unfortunately to no avail.

I would write a new bug for this as it maybe a compatibility issue.

Thank you, I've filed bug 905386.

Did you check the related browser.gesture.* prefs on the about:config page to make that they have the correct value for this gesture?

more options

I see browser.gesture.swipe.left and browser.gesture.swipe.right, but I have no idea what the correct value would be. They're currently set to Browser:BackOrBackDuplicate and Browser:ForwardOrForwardDuplicate, but I don't see anything related to the number of fingers for this action (neither for up and down scrolling).

The problem is in the touchpad Asus driver.

I had the same problem, when I installed the normal Elan driver the problem was solved!

I found the working driver here: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Touchpad&p=3&os=30

It does changes the direction of scrolling(up is up now) and the in-windows three finger swipe up looks different..
