Searching all address books misses entries
I have a few address books set up. One is my Personal Address (PA) book. Within that I have various lists. One is called residents. Previously I would enter an address in the PA and then copy it to Residents. If I then went to All Address (AA) books I would find the entry twice - once in the PA and once in Residents. For my recent additions to the PA and Residents, when I search AA I only find the PA entry. However, if I go to Residents, the new entry is there. If I just search in either AA, or PA, it finds the new entry in PA, but not in Residents. If I search Residents it finds the entry. But unlike before, I cannot search in AA and find both entries. Is this a feature update or a problem. By the way, I have rebooted the PC and the problem is still there.
Entries that I have previously made still work the old way, i.e. searching in AA finds both entries, searching in PA finds on the PA entry, and searching in Residents finds only the Residents entry.
Thank you.
I am running win 10 v1809, 64 bit, and using TBird 60.8.0

In case this is useful to anyone - I find that searching for a person in All Addresses shows multiple entries for anyone who is also in a List. In the column for Address Book - for the main entry, the address book name shows. For other entries, there is nothing listed under the Address Book column - and those entries come from Lists. However if I do the same search within a list - as the OP's images show - then the list name appears under Address Book instead of being blank. This is good to know - especially when tidying up overlapping lists. I have not had the Address Book column turned on in my address book before, so I can't tell whether this is a change in TB behaviour. Agnes

As mailing lists only contain pointers to address book entries. I would say this new behavior is actually correct. Address book search is finding the address book entries not the psuedo entries in the mailing lists.
Curious. My Thunderbird versions that I have been using now for about a year, have always seemed to find the pseudo entries too. I find it helpful. And as I said, prior entries to my address book work the old way and new entries work the new way. Maybe this is something that was "fixed" in the current version.
Hi I tested in my TB 60.8.0 and I can still create two separate addresses in two address books, and find both in All Addresses. However if there is one entry in any address book and I also added the person to a list, only one entry is found. That's how it has always worked for me. Can you post a screen shot showing the address book with both kinds of search results? It would help us to see whether "Residents" is really a list or an address book. I'm not clear about the process you are using to create multiple address book entries. It sounds as if you want to create separate entries in different address books, but I don't know of a way to 'copy' when doing that. Do you actually create a whole new entry? If so, perhaps try slightly different spelling or nicknames and see if a not entirely identical entry works or not? When creating a 'list' rather than an address book entry, you would open the list, and type the name or email, TB would find it (in any of your address books) and you choose to add it to the list. That would use a pointer as Matt says, and not create a separate entry. Agnes
Agnes, Thank you for the note. I put it all in a word file, text and images and then realized I could not upload it. So here is the text and my 6 SnagIt images are collected in one image file, attached, that I hope you can read. If not let me know. Elliott
Examples. Polly is older entry. I entered her in my Personal Address book and dragged her to OM Residents list. I did not make another entry. A search of All Addresses reveals both. A search of Personal Address book or OM residents find only one or the other. My goal is to have only one entry but to be able to search and confirm that it is my Personal address book and that I remembered to copy it to my OM residents list.
What I find odd, is that it used to work on way, and now appears to work a different way for new entries. See below for next example. Maybe it is user error, but …
Darlene Gerster is a recent entry. I entered her the same way. A search of All Addresses finds her only in the Personal Address Book. When I search the Personal address book I find her there and when I search OM residents I find her there as well.
The 6 images are in order to represent the above 2 cases.

next time upload the jpg or png image directly to the forum. so you would click the add images button 6 times for 6 images.
Lets see your address book list with the personal address book collapsed. The search results show you have an address book called OM residents and it is from there the second result is appearing.
Matt, Thanx much. Looks like user error. I hadn't entered OM addresses in awhile and had forgotten my plan to keep them in a separate address book for easy access and also create a mailing list so I could send to all 90 or so when needed. Perhaps I am creating needless work for myself. All cleaned up now and thank you for taking some time.
