Emails are sent from two seperate email accounts...how to fix?
Happy new year to all. I have 2 email addresses. I use Thunderbird as my mail account. The two email addresses are @gmail.com accounts. First account (lets call it A) is used to connect for personal . Second account (call it B) is used when I deal with business or potential spammers. My issue is that when I send an email from Thunderbird on account B, the email is also sent out from account A, so the receiver sees 2 of the same emails, the other showing my personal email account. I have something enabled here but I don't know what or how. I have checked my gmail account settings, and only the specific addresses are enabled, not tying or adding any other email address to the send for each specific account. How can I stop this second account from also sending the email from the first account? Thank you to all. LarsS

my guess is you are sending using the "wrong" smtp server.
So lets start bu opening the outgoing server (smtp) entry in the account settings dialog.
I am assuming you already have two entries there for gmail. but make sure they have distinctive names. username - server name is the standard, but I have seen the odd ones where just smtp.gmail.com is shown.
If you do not have two entries, add another gmail outgoing server. using the correct credentials.
now scroll the account settings list to show the account names (above server settings for each account) and select.
Check the outgoing server is selected for the account (I think you will find both accounts using one SMTP server)
One thing Gmail does is add the outgoing mail to the sent folder as it goes through their outgoing server. This is where I think the perception you have of the mail being sent from both accounts comes from. You send from account B using Accounts A's SMTP server details and therefore you see two entries in your send folder. One for each account.
Once you have things set correctly both email accounts should have two outgoing mails appear for every mail you send if you are using IMAP. One added by Thunderbird when you lick send, and another added by Gmail as the mail goes through they servers.
Some folks like having two copies, other like me find it insane. So once all is working as it should I suggest you use the copies and folder in account settings to tell Thunderbird not to make a copy.
Thanks for the quick reply Matt. Confused. The account settings in Tbird show the following for each outgoing server (SMTP) : Acct 1: "use default server"...then under MANAGE IDENTITIES tab it shows the correct gmail address for that acct #1. Acct 2: "use default server"...then under MANAGE IDENTITIES tab it shows the correct gmail address for that acct #2. I checked my symptom again. When account#2 sends, it shows up at receiver's end as account #1 address. is this what you meant by using the "wrong" smtp server? The other choices, rather than "user default server" are all the same: "smtp.googlemail.com" Thanks again.
Umm, why are you using "Manage Identities"? This is not appropriate to operating two distinct email accounts.
