This is a repost of a now-closed question. I'm only re-posting so that I can mark the solution from @sfhowes as "Accepted Solution" which nicely solves the issue:

Original Question:

(From: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1022384 )

How can I disable or bypass the "Mail Account Setup" wizard and just create a new account in the "Account Settings" panel? The "Mail Account Setup" wizard won't let me get that far without jumping through all its unhelpful hoops, and I don't know to disable or bypass it.

Accepted Solution at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1022384#answer-635043

The new dialog added by that add-on is trivial to bypass *and* it doesn't force an auto-config attempt before allowing manual config, so I'm very happy with it as a solution, thanks.

Relevant enhancement request: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353838

I hope this summary will be helpful to others.
