This webpage popped up:

http://cloudupdates.biz/browser-update/ff-/?subid=nym1CPuv4uPQm4aGYxACGMnV0frE9fS7WCILNjkuMTE2LjEuMjEoATDegtmbBQ..&transaction_id=46e1d6ea-1719-41cb-bc1e-546b322b1bae&rand=537642220cbc4&sid=cpa&exit=y&auto=y&source=D-FF-Media2

They have the Firefox logo, state Firefox 29 is outdated, and try to entice people to download their ".exe" file which they claim is a new version of Firefox.

However, at the bottom of the webpage, in small gray writing, it says:

"Disclaimer: We are not affiliated nor partnered, with Firefox. Firefox has not authored, participated in, or in any way reviewed this advertisement or authorized it. All trademarks, service marks, logos, and/or domain names (including the names of products and retailers) are property of their respective owners. "

Can you tell me what is going on here and how to block this website from opening anymore?

edit: making link leading to malicious .exe unclickable. (philipp)

hello, this is a scam tactic that is trying to trick you into installing malware, so don't download or execute this kind of stuff! only download firefox from its official location at mozilla.org - in addition updates are handled automatically by firefox so you don't have to download anything (you can initiate a check for updates in the firefox menu New Fx Menu > help Help-29 > about firefox). as a rule of thumb: anything that requires you to download and run an .exe file to perform a firefox update will be fake.

you might also want to run a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and different tools like the free version of malwarebytes, adwcleaner & kaspersky security scan in order to make sure that there isn't already some sort of malware active on your system that triggers these false alerts.

Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

you could also help by pressing F10 & going to help > report web forgery while you're on this dubious page - this might get the page into the list of malicious sites that get blocked in firefox (the actual list is maintained by google) or when such pages use the firefox logos or trademarks to trick users into downloading malware you could also file it at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/fraud-report/.

Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated,

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS.

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Any time you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the web site of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to Mozilla.org.

You can sent a report to the Real FBI via their Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)

You can also report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery
