Firefox always crashes about 10 seconds after startup
Hi There,
I have an older iMac running 10.6.8. After I start Firefox, it always crashes after about 10 seconds (the beachball of death appears for a few seconds, and then it crashes).
I've tried the following:
- Running Disk Utility to repair the disk (was Ok)
- Running Disk Utility to repair disk permissions (fixed a few, none obviously Firefox related)
- Delete Firefox application
- Rename ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox to ~/Library/Application Support/NotFirefox so it won't be used
- Reinstall the latest Firefox 23.0.1 from the Firefox 23.0.1.dmg
- It still crashes
- Run in Safe Mode, and it still crashes
The bug report below is from the safe mode crash. It had previously worked for many years.
Any suggestions? Thanks, Craig

You may have a problem with the fonts.
You can do a check for corrupted and duplicate fonts and other font issues:

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing when you open it (for a few seconds). Please do the following to give us crash IDs that will help us understand more about the crash.
- (OS X 10.6 or previous) Click the Finder icon in the dock. Your home folder will be selected. In the right side of the window, click the Library folder to open it. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
- Open the 5 most recent files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
- Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.
Thanks in advance!

Hi cor-el,
Thanks for the suggestion. That solved my problem. I used Font Book to remove some duplicate fonts, but my problem remained. I then used Font Nuke to delete all the font caches on my system, and the problem was fixed.
Thanks again, Craig
