Google Earth Plugin is vulnerable and has an 'Update Now' link. It just redirects to itself.

Could you elaborate on this?

Try going to Google Earth web site and get a fresh program from there.

That's not really a solution to the bug.

Still happening.

You can manually update it from here Google Earth Plugin for Windows and Mac 10.6+

Went to the link to get a new plugin and the existing plugin crashes :-)

Eventually managed to cancel the plugin and install the download.

After reboot, plug-in checker now reports "Unknown, Research".

However the bug i originally reported is not fixed because it should either be reporting "Unknown, Research", or be reporting "Update Now" and linking to the new plugin, not redirecting to itself.

Obviously I cannot report if and when this has been fixed now that i have the correct plugin so perhaps one of those who have reported the same problem can pick up the baton

thanks ....

Correction, plug-in checker now reports "7.1.1.1580 - Up-to-date" (I was mistakenly looking at Google Update, not Google Earth), so the initial diagnosis of "vulnerable - Update Now" is correct, but the underlying link is wrong)

Went to Google to update, says it is already installed. However, plugin checker says vulnerable update now.

creash: To make sure you are on the same topic, what plug-in are you referring to?

I have the same problem. Went to their website with the link posted in the message header that says Chosen Solution and it says I have plugin version 7.0.3.8542 there is no link on that page to update the plugin. I have discovered I only use that plugin on one site and it now does not work properly. However it was working before all those MS updates last week. Is this a Firefox issue or a Google Earth issue?

I resolved this problem yesterday by disabling the Google Earth plugin in both Firefox and Internet Explorer then went to the link posted above and was able to download the updated plugin. It now reports 7.1.1.1580, Yippee.

I too had this issue, solved by updating Java to 7u25 and reinstalling Google Earth.

1. Search the web using "java se download", select "Java SE Downloads - Oracle" which took me to "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html" I wish to thank the company "Secunia" for directing me the Oracle page.

2. Search the web using "google earth plugin reinstall" to reinstall, which took me to "http://www.google.com/earth/plugin/error.html" where there is a message and a link to the reinstall.

3. Restart Firefox; this will update your plugin status. My thanks to svanslyck for asking.

I retraced my steps, going back to the "http://www.google.com/earth/plugin/error.html" and still gives me the "There was a problem with the Google Earth Plugin. Please try reloading the page."; not to worry, look at your plugins and google earth plugin 7.1.1.1871 is up-to-date.

Whens is this going to be fixed? And by "this" I mean the problem with the Update Now link pointing right straight back to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ .

I clicked on "http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/"; it showed Google Earth version "7.1.1.1871" as "up to date". I noticed that one of my Adobe plugins needed to be updated, so I clicked on the "Update Now"; updated the application and went back to the "http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/" and it still shows that it needs to be updated. I suspect I need to close Firefox and restart Firefox. I'll let you know once I restart.

Update: Yep, the restart was the issue. All of my plugins are showing "up to date". I stand corrected; I didn't restart Firefox when I made my comment. I will correct my original with a note to restart Firefox before checking on the plugin status.

I went to www.google.com, clicked on "Maps" and when the map display selected "Earth". It worked, I was able to view my home.

I clicked on "http://www.google.com/earth/plugin/error.html" and it displayed ""There was a problem with the Google Earth Plugin. Please try reloading the page." I would just ignore the message; I am a user, not tech support.

I got fed up waiting for a fix as the plugin still was not working properly. I uninstalled Google Earth through Control Panel, programs and features as well as the plugin, then reinstalled Google Earth and the plugin from the Google Earth downloads page. Saved all the mucking about trying to get it to work properly.
