Try disabling any third-party antivirus or security software, you may need to reboot into Windows Safe Mode with networking enabled.

more options

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet, select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

Does it still happen with Developer Edition?

Try renaming firefox.exe to something else.

Create a new local Windows user account, log in to it and see if it still happens there.
