I did convert the mbox mails from pst using Softaken tool. The I installed the addon importEportToolsNG, and started to import mbox files. The mails shows up in Thunderbrird in a separate directory. But when I restart Thunderbird the directories with the mails are therre still, but no mails are shown in them.

I don't know how the Softaken tool works, but if it creates files named filename.mbox, you should remove the .mbox extension before importing or copying into TB. Note that all other mbox files in your profile folder have no extension.

Did you import the mbox files to Local Folders? Try this: Help/Troubleshooting, click Open Folder, close TB, copy an mbox file into the Mail/Local Folders location, restart TB. Does a folder with the same name as the mbox appear under Local Folders, and display the messages?

I will explain the problem in more details. The file structures should be correct. 1. Two two first pictures shows the file structure. 2. From Thunderbrid I use ImportExportToolsNG to read the mbox file. Then the result is like picture 3. The mails are shown in a separate folder. 4. When I restart Thunderbird the folder with the mails are gone. I need to use ImportExportToolsNG once more to convert the mbox file.

I did try that, but it did not help. It is also created another directory when I start Thunderbird. If the main directory is called Books, another directory is created called Books.sbd. See the attachements.

If you have any .mbox file in the profile folder, you can either remove it or remove the .mbox extension - TB will not read it. Same with any .mbox.msf file.

There are other ways to import from Outlook, including the built-in option or using MailStore as an intermediary:

I did installe and use Mailstore. I did export my outlook pst file and exported it into Thunderbird. It worked basically fine. However the new mailbox was stored inside the old Local Folders. Is it possible to move the new folder to a new location preferably parallelle with Local Folders?

more options

Accounts, including Local Folders, form the top level of the Folder Pane tree, so if by 'parallel with Local Folders' you mean at the top level, that isn't possible, although you can move the imported messages to other POP account folders. There is also an add-on to create additional Local Folders 'accounts'.

Thanks a lot for the help. The Mailstore Home application fixed my problem. Folder locations I will fix. Not so important
