As summarised in question. I discovered previously that Save As initially had sent pages to Downloads. Somehwere or other I found some settings that allowed me to say 'Don't do that' and was for a time able to Save As conventionally. But now it's still not offering any save As options nor sending pages to Downloads. It's the same whether I try to save via the File dropdown or the Open menu icon.

When you press the Save Page As button, you should get this window.

Is this not happening?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

If the problem is gone, It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

TYVM. As it happens, visiting a few web sites between mails I found I was able to save one or two pages - both via Open Menu button and File dropdown list - which might tell you something. But otherwise Wow! your reply looks pretty daunting: one of my add-ons, you say? If I understood this stuff, I guess I wouldn't need to ask. From your time-code, you must be on the west coast, but here in the Old World it's gotten very late; perhaps I'll feel braver in the morning about touching anything*. If not, and it become too-o-o inconvenient, I'll maybe have a go. Thanks again.
