It seems multiple users have inquired regarding display of the sender email address, not the spoofed display name. It looks like the 'From' and 'Correspondents' fields are identical. The replay to user inquiries is often just a link to an addon which purportedly will add such a column. Why does Thunderbird offer only information that is so commonly manipulated by phishing attacks, and fail to provide such basic header information as sending email address? Is there a rationale? Add a chat function, a calendar, a task list, but do not offer basic information that is needed to identify malicious email?

How does the project prioritize feature development? This does not reflect well on the project. Is there any official rationale for why this situation continues?

This is a user support forum, not a platform or a place to discuss the project or it's processes or priorities.

You apparently want access to the raw email address in the from field. As you have already become aware Thunderbird uses the Display name component of the address in the message lists, having got this far I also assume you are aware that the full sender email address is shown in the message header when the message is read.

You mention the addon. I will link to it, just in case someone else comes along looking for the same thing. https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/full-address-column/

You may for reasons of your own feel that not displaying the full address until you read the message as some sort of security risk, but I fail to see it. It is not as if opening the email really exposes you to any real risk. It is clicking links and opening attachments in the mail that represents the security risks. Not reading the contents. Given the addon has some 5000 users, out of tens of millions of Thunderbird users, I would suggest your desire for a column like that is not shared very widely. Generally addons with user numbers in the hundreds of thousands are those considered for inclusion in the base product, and then not always.

However if you wish you can offer feedback to the project here https://connect.mozilla.org/ I am certainly only another user, my opinions are my own.

Just a thought: When you open an email, and hover over the text in the To: field, the associated email address is displayed. Rather than adding another column for the sender's email address, why not just add an option to the From column which would display a sender's email address when you hover over the sender's display name?
