If new messages is in new window it is not easy to find again on a busy screen. new window of thunderbird new message does not come forward by using cmd-tab and I have to make it active by hand. very annoying how to make thunderbird write new message in tab? (not in new window)

At the moment it is not possible to write messages in a tab instead of in a window. If you want to read more on the issue, check out bug 449299, but please don't comment on the bug...

On Mac OS X you can use Command-Accent (`) to activate the next open window in the current application and Command-Shift-Accent (`) to activate the previous open window.

Thanks. This will not solve the problem. It is a kind of work-around. I do use all kind of applications to compose messages. If this I would have to cmd-tab back to Thunderbird and cmd-` to the message.
