Where is Classic Theme Restorer?

more options

I recently had my hard drive fail, necessitating a new hard drive being put into my computer. When I went to reinstall Firefox version 52, I noticed that Classic Theme Restorer is not coming up in the extension and add on searches. Was this removed for some reason? And if so, is it possible to restore it?

Firefox 52 is no longer supported (it has one more update in Sept but after that won't be supported). Please install Firefox 61.0.1 or later ASAP.

The developer of Classic Theme Restorer deleted their add-on, so it is no longer available

Seriously? That's horrible. I loved Classic Theme Restorer. Is there anything similar we can use or are we stuck with the new theme? Also, Are there any extensions that 61 or later does not support? (i.e. adblock plus, Noscript, and webroot's filter extension? For that matter, where's the classic google searchbar?

As said the author of this extension has removed it https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/user/aris-t2/ https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/

Actually there will be no more major update for the legacy Firefox 52 ESR according to Release calendar but not to say there will be no more minor update for security and or stability fixes up till Sept 5.

Firefox 57.0 and later does not support the legacy Extensions.

Ok, so what are legacy extensions and how do I know which are legacy and which are not?

Adblock plus, noscript, and I imagine webroots extension are all supported in Firefox 61. You can see if an add-on will run in 61 by going to it's add-on page. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ for example, has an "add to Firefox" button since it's compatible.

Please update to 61 ASAP

If you'd like to customize how Firefox looks, you can do so with userChrome.css

Ok, I somehow got automatically updated to Firefox 61. While I'm happy to see a return by the squared tabs, noscript is apparently called a legacy extension? I dunno if this is legitimate or a bug in the software. Can I get some kind of confirmation on this? When it offered to find a replacement, it brought up something called Double noscript, which seems to be from the same person. How do I get it?

You just need the latest version of noscript. update your add-ons, or install from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/

Ah, cool. So on the subject of Quantum, what has changed between the older versions and this? Again, aside from the squared tabs, I mean. Those are a nice thing to see back.

There are tons of new features in Firefox, from a complete re-work of the rendering engine, to new privacy and security features. It's definitely a good idea to stay fully up to date

  • nods* I went back town to 52 while I was waiting on a response, but now that I know noscript CAN be updated, I'll probably switch back up to 61 in a day or two. I'm still trying to get everything settled with my laptop as I just got the thing back after having to have its hard drive replaced due to the old one deciding that last sunday was a good day to die.

Ok, so I am back up to 61, and thankfully I am able to use Noscript again. It's nice to see a somewhat return to the old version 25-28 look. Are there any extensions that would make the buttons more closely resemble that old style of button again? I know Classic Theme Restorer is gone, but is there anything similar? For that matter, is the 'classic youtube' extension safe and usable?

Hi, no extensions that is the whole idea of now Classic Theme Restorer as those type of Extensions were crashing Firefox : https://www.howtogeek.com/333230/why-firefox-had-to-kill-your-favorite-extension/ It would be done with userChrome :

You would have to make a file+folder to see if this still works or if anyone is updating search.

Find code at github by googling in. Find code here :

Toolbar buttons? What aspects of the buttons would you want to change? I have something for Bookmarks here, if that's the issue: https://www.userchrome.org/what-is-userchrome-css.html#colorbookmarkfolder

More generally, the author of Classic Theme Restorer maintains a set of custom style rules for a userChrome.css files which is as dizzyingly comprehensive as CTR was. More info on those: https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx

The big issue for me is I dunno much about how to use anything beyond just what the extensions did back in the day, and I have no idea how to use anything from Chrome.

It's new to everyone the first time. :-) I created a website to get people oriented (https://www.userchrome.org/), but the most important thing is having a clear idea of what you want to achieve so people can customize style recipes for you. "One size fits all" does not exist...

I have no idea how to use anything from Chrome.

It is not Chrome. It is userChrome which has been around in Firefox before the Chrome Browser was even thought of.

I gave you the information. Make a file, make a folder, stick it in the right place, copy/paste code to file. Finished. Do not need to learn, just need to get a grasp which is 20mins of reading.

In the Firefox the "chrome" is any visible aspect aside from the webpages themselves (e.g., toolbars, menu bar, tabs) - the User Interface / UI. Firefox uses the "chrome://" URI protocol to access internal files and uses "chrome" in other cases like userChrome.css and userContent.css files which can be used to modify the UI.

Not to be confused with the Google Chrome web browser. Google hired a few Mozilla developers early on in their development of the open-source Chromium project for use as their new web browser and they decided to use "Chrome" for the Google branded version of Chromium. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_%28web_browser%29
