When I go to download a PDF file, tabs start opening continuously. And I never get the file because the tabs just keep opening.

Chosen solution

You get tabs opening endlessly if you select the Firefox program to handle a file when you get an "Open with" dialog. You should never select Firefox as the application to handle a file.

You can rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

I reloaded Firefox as suggested. It worked!
