Hello,

Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.

  1. Use one of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
    • Click the Firefox button to open the menu and click on Bookmarks.
    • Click the Bookmarks menu and click on Show All Bookmarks.
  2. At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
  3. Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
  4. In the new window that appears, click OK.
  5. Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.

For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

I have had the same experience as well since I upgraded yesterday to Firefox 24.0. Years of bookmarks and saved passwords are now all gone. I can't find any old profile information on my system. The really strange thing is that it knows some password information. When I go to the Facebook page, it opens logged into my account. When I go to saved passwords, it is blank. When I go to Show all Bookmarks it is blank and restore is just available from today and yesterday (which is pretty much blank). All add-ons and plugins are gone too. It looks like a fresh installation. There is absolutely no warning that this is going to happen when you say yes to the upgrade. How devastating and discouraging.

Hi mozusernow, as you can imagine, this is not the normal upgrade experience, and I probably would use worse language if it happened to me.

It sounds as though your Facebook cookies remained intact and logged you in, but some of the other files were lost or damaged. In case Firefox did an automatic Reset, do you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on your desktop? If so, we could walk through how to rescue some files from it. Of particular interest would be the bookmarkbackups folder.

Hi hemabairavan, it's possible that the Windows system restore left you with a mish-mash of files that don't work as a coherent profile. Still, it might be possible to rescue something.

By the way, why did you do a system restore -- was it related to any problem in Firefox?

If you open this path (Start > Run > paste it > press Enter) do you see any profile folders other than the main one you're using?

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Or another way to navigate is to use

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

from within Firefox, and use the up-one-level button when that folder opens in windows explorer.
