Hi All,

The last couple of FF versions have some problem I can't put my finger on.

1. I write PHP code and test on my local web server. When I view Source I'm looking at an older version of the page. I must clear the cache before the updated view Source is shown. I can't remember ever having to clear the cache before, not to mention how often I must do it now.

2. When debugging, I click on the page I want to debug. There have been times when the page shown is not the page I clicked on. In fact the page that is shown is not even loaded at the time.

3. A few times I load FF and go to my database login page. When I submit nothing happens (the page just reloads). No errors are reported and I'm not logged in to the database. I haven't changed any code for the login page for years. I did some debugging and found everything as it should (code runs) but it didn't log me in. It just reloads the page after a submit. To fix this problem I closed FF and then opened it again. This time everything worked and I was able to log in.

Am I the only one with these problems?

Thanks for any help,

Charles

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Hi,

I already knew about Ctrl-F5 and I did that more than 4-6 times but it made no difference (sorry, forgot to mention this). I think the problems with FF go beyond just hitting Ctrl-F5. Sometimes when I load a page parts of the page have a black background. If I click anywhere on the page the black background changes. Sometimes just scrolling down the page will make the black background disappear. I know he page I loaded has a white background because I wrote it.

Mean while I will check out the link posted in the other answer.

Thank you,

Charles

Hi,

I looked at the link that was posted. The best I can see is to clear the cache when FF closes. When i write code I'm not closing FF, just writing code. I even looked for an add-in but based on the descriptions they won't work for me. I WANT to keep my Cookies and Site Data, only clear the cache.

Does anyone know of an add-in that will clear the cache but keep cookies and site data?

Thanks for any help,

Charles

You can use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the disk cache when you close Firefox. You shouldn't use this to clear the cookies and site preferences.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions"
