Hi bregal, what page are you viewing? Or is this everywhere? If it appears all over the place, it could be a bad add-on. More on that at the end.

Sometimes those icons are meant to occupy an empty area in the column on a wide screen display, but on a regular display or when you zoom, they overlap the content.

Firefox doesn't have a convenient way to zap selected content off the screen. There might be a feature like that in uBlock Origin, an extension known mostly as an ad blocker, but it also contains a feature to take other unwanted features off a page.

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

In case this is the result of a bad add-on, could you check your extensions on the Add-ons page? Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any system extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious? If in doubt, disable.

Any improvement?

One other thought: is Firefox's Sidebar open? The Sidebar can list Bookmarks, History, or other things. The Sidebar doesn't overlap into the page, but it leaves less room for the page. There is an "x" button at the upper right of the sidebar to close it.

Seems to be both site and machine specific. This site: https://ssofficelocations.org/georgia/covington/social-security-office-covington-ga-30014/

Has no Facebook/Twitter pop-ups on my PC at work but it puts them over the left side of the screen content at home.

Wow, that is pretty bad! Worse than normal.

My advice is to install uBlock Origin to block advertisements and other "objectionable" content. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

Then open Options" for uBlock Origin in the Addons Manager (Ctrl + Shft + A} and click the 3rd Party Filters tab and scroll down to Annoyances.

Select Fanboy’s Social Blocking List and then hit the Apply changes button that will appear in the upper-left of that panel.

I just did that myself and when I reloaded that page all those Social Networking icons that were floating on the page disappeared.

Problem is that if you use Social Networking buttons on other webpages that have them laid out better and not covering the page content like on that particular web page. That filterset will block Social n buttons on all web pages.
